One Adventure to Another
Diane - going back to the Unite Half Marathon
DIANE.SURVIVINGSTRONG.ORG

Just another day.

The last blog I wrote before Unite was all about the "test" and how the real
challenge for me would begin the day after the race.. To see if I would
continue to make good eating choices and also work out when I didn't want to
or didn't have to. I never hit send. For some reason, that post went to my
drafts and I never sent it. But to fill you in on my post race week..

I ran, I spun, I lifted, I'm feeling great ... << MORE >>

13.1? not quite

I knew it. I knew there would be something that wouldn't go right because
my training was so on target. At first I thought it was the sharp shooting
pain I got in my neck right before our pre-race dinner that would make me
not able to run; took some Advil and all was good in the world again. 12
midnight I wake to "drip, drip, drip". A leak in my hotel room ceiling.
will a caved ceiling and stuck athlete now miss the race? No, packed up,

What I've Learned

This is what I've learned this training season.

When I think I don't want to or don't feel like running, I can, I will and I
end up running more than I thought I would.

The old saying I had of "If I don't work out first thing in the morning, I
can't work out" is not true. I can do it at night..

When I've had a bad eating day, I don't have to "top it off with an ice ... << MORE >>

STRUGGLING

OMG!!! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ON TRACK DIANE!!!! THE ONE WHO COULD WIN A
FIGHT WITH A BOX OF COOKIES! I must calm down. okay. It all started on
Sunday morning. My last long run. I was happy, prepared.. But then when
morning came, I just didn't want to do it! I didn't want to run that same
route again. Just couldn't. What I did do was head on over to the gym and
I did an hour and a half of cardio... So I put in the time. Fine. ... << MORE >>

April Fools

April Fools! That's what I'm hoping the weather men say tomorrow as snow is
predicted. I need to run 4 to 6 miles (according to my training plan) and
as long as the kids get off to school with no snow delays, I plan to run it
outside. Look people, the way I see things going, we may be running Unite
in the snow. So I figure, best to be prepared. Sick over it, yes, but need
to take snowy weather conditions into race day consideration!

Running Free

So I set the alarm for 6:00 b/c I'm thinking I need to get to run 10 to 11
miles and get showered and to my CCD class... I stay in bed until about 20
after, get up, look outside. Lie back down. I decide I'll run tonight -
when it's warmer. Though warm never came today. Anyways, I'm lying there
and then - boom - I throw the covers off me and said to hubby, I'm going
now. Get the kids to church, I'll meet you in the CCD ... << MORE >>

Winter Wonderland

I really have nothing new to blog, but I'm just amazed at how I'm out there
again this a.m. shoveling snow and freezing AND WONDERING HOW I'M GOING TO
RUN TODAY! Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful. I love, love, love a
tree-lined street covered in snow (the trees covered in snow, not the
streets). I love running in that. Or running next to a flowing brook with
snow covered rocks and branches. Anyway, I like that in February, not late
March. I didn't get to workout yesterday ... << MORE >>

Ostacles on my Run

What a beautiful day for a run yesterday! I tried a different route. I had
11 ahead of me and I looked so forward to it! Things were going wonderful
until I hit about mile 7 or so? Whatever I ate the evening before, well,
didn't agree with me. There are no bathrooms on my run so I walked a
little. Then I picked up the run again but now my shoulder has this
shooting pain! So I stretch it out. As I'm running I feel a pop, pop, pop. ... << MORE >>

making it work.

Darn it, I meant to blog yesterday, the "one month to race day" day. But it
was a crazy day, where I made it work. It's been a nutty week. Kids have
half days in school and I worked. not leaving much time for the gym or
running. But I did it. I did an AMAZING speed run on the treadmill on
Tuesday. Faster than I expected. It was AWE-SOME and I can't wait to do it
again. Wednesday I stuck with just weights b/c there was time for nothing ... << MORE >>

Staying on Course

Are you all wondering what I decided to do this weekend? I mean, after all,
my last blog had much dilemma in it with closed, flooded roads, time changes
and church morning obligations. What's an athlete to do!!! I woke Saturday
morning later than I wanted beings I went to bed later than I wanted. I sat
and looked outside. Hmm, too late for 11 miles, especially if the road is
closed and I didn't clock anything. I mean, I could hit the gym and do a
few ... << MORE >>
